Removable pool on artificial grass

Is it possible to put a swimming pool on artificial grass?

Approximate reading time: 3 minutes, 55 seconds

With the arrival of summer, inflatable pools are a great way to beat the sweltering heat and take a refreshing dip. Besides requiring no construction, these inflatable pools are affordable and highly functional.

As we've mentioned in previous articles, artificial grass is another great option for summer in gardens and terraces throughout Spain. Its easy installation and maintenance make it a sure bet for enjoying an amazing summer.

But are inflatable pools and artificial grass compatible? Take note because below we'll give you some tips to avoid damaging your artificial grass after installing and removing a portable pool.

Synthetic turf is manufactured for high resistance and durability. Therefore, inflatable pools can be placed on it without causing any damage.

It's important to note that something as bulky and heavy as a portable pool will flatten the fibers of artificial grass. However, if we perform certain maintenance tasks on the synthetic turf, such as brushing against the grain, we can ensure that no marks remain on the surface once the pool is dismantled.

Furthermore, choosing a quality artificial turf is essential. It should have good resilience, high density, and a high number of curled fibers. Not all artificial turf rolls are the same; knowing how to choose based on your needs is fundamental to achieving the desired result.

Another major concern for customers is the potential damage caused by pool chemicals, such as chlorine. The models we offer at jardinvertical.es perfectly tolerate chlorine and pool humidity, without causing stains or mold. Factors to consider when choosing the best synthetic turf for inflatable pools.

If you know you want to place an inflatable pool on your artificial grass , it's important to consider a few factors before buying it.

    • Drainage. It might not seem important, but entering and exiting a pool involves splashing a significant amount of water onto the surrounding surface. Therefore, having artificial turf with excellent drainage is essential to prevent waterlogging, which can damage the turf and promote the growth of fungi and bacteria.
    • Memory effect. This refers to the ability of artificial grass fibers to recover their original shape after being stepped on or under the weight of furniture or pools. This characteristic ensures that after the summer season and the dismantling of the inflatable pool, the synthetic grass mat will regain its original shape and good appearance.
  • Quality. Investing in quality artificial grass is essential to ensure that its appearance and fibers remain in optimal condition for much longer and are not affected by weather conditions, humidity, chlorine, or the weight of above-ground pools.

Which artificial grass is best suited to put under an inflatable pool?

At jardinvertical.es you'll find a wide variety of artificial grass types to choose from, depending on the needs of your patio or garden. All models are resistant to sun and chlorine. They also feature excellent drainage, with a flow rate of between 60 and 100 liters per minute per square meter.

When choosing artificial grass for a removable pool, it's important to consider the quality of the fibers and whether they are curled, as this provides both consistency and flexibility. This will help ensure the grass stays upright.

Height is another factor to consider. Shorter models are generally more suitable for high-traffic areas or areas with heavy loads  .

Among our artificial grass models, we can highlight the 40W and 35C concave as the models that have the greatest recovery and memory effect.

What should I consider before installing a swimming pool on artificial grass?

When placing a removable pool on artificial grass, you must take into account certain aspects that will influence the appearance of your grass carpet.

The first thing you need to choose is the location where you want to place your above-ground pool. Once you set it up and fill it with water, you won't be able to move it. Dragging it across the artificial grass fibers can damage them and tear them from their base. If this happens, there's no way to fix it; the appearance of the artificial green carpet will be forever changed. However, if you simply place the pool in one spot, the fibers will flatten, but they can be recovered later. A good option is to place a protective tarp between the grass and the pool to prevent wear and tear from friction if the pool is moved.

The ground and surface must be level and free of branches, roots, or stones . Additionally, a good weed barrier should be installed beneath the artificial grass to prevent new branches from growing.

The size, weight, structure, and water volume of the pool do not significantly affect the artificial turf. The fibers will flatten and recover in the same way.

How to restore the shape of artificial grass when you dismantle the pool.

When September ends, the above-ground pool is taken down and stored until the next season. At that point, you'll probably discover that your artificial grass is flattened from the weight it's been supporting. But don't panic! It can be salvaged.

Brush the fibers of the artificial grass

On high-quality, resilient synthetic turf, the fibers can stand upright again in a few days without brushing. In other cases, this doesn't happen, so we need to follow these steps:

  • Wait for the synthetic grass to reach temperature so you can mold its fibers more easily.
  • Brush against the grain with a stiff bristle brush or a special brush for artificial grass
  • Spread silica sand in the area so the fibers can return to their original position. Water the area and brush again to ensure the sand reaches the backing.

You may have to repeat this process several times in the days following dismantling, but eventually the fibers will regain their position and the artificial grass will look pristine and without a trace in the place where the pool was.
