Artificial grass is generating increasing interest thanks to its easy installation and natural appearance. It requires virtually no maintenance and is much more durable, as drought, sudden temperature changes, or heavy rain do not affect its appearance.
If you've decided to install artificial grass at home this summer, you can't miss these tips for securing it to the ground. Whether you're a professional or a beginner, you're sure to find some useful tricks below.
Choice of ground fixing system
Securing the synthetic turf to the ground is one of the final steps in installing artificial grass. Depending on whether the surface is soil or concrete, a specific type of fixing is recommended. However, it's important to note that it's not necessary to fix the entire surface; fixing the perimeter will suffice.
Before fixing it to the ground, it is important that both the surface and the artificial grass are dry, since it will not be properly anchored to the ground on a wet surface.
Furthermore, it is important that this is done once all the artificial grass panels or pieces are already joined together with joining tape and glue or with self-adhesive joining tape.
Concrete, cement or tile surface (smooth floor)
If the surface where you want to install it is hard and smooth, you can use special glue for artificial grass. This two-component glue is the same one used to join pieces together.
Our recommendation is to apply a small amount of adhesive every 30 cm around the perimeter. This will be sufficient to ensure the artificial grass is firmly anchored while also allowing for good drainage.
Another option is to use double-sided tape. This adhesive is only suitable for areas with low traffic and a consistent climate year-round. When applying it, make sure the entire surface is clean and free of dust or gravel. Then, place the tape around the entire perimeter and press down firmly on the artificial grass to ensure it adheres well.

Ground surface (rough or uneven ground)
If the installation is on the ground, staples are the most suitable fixing method . They should be placed 10 cm from the perimeter and every 50 cm.

What should you keep in mind when installing artificial grass?
The main benefit of securing the turf to the ground is preventing it from moving or being lifted by the wind. But also:
- It is movable, which means that if at any time you decide to remove it, you can do so without any problem.
- It's invisible; both the glue and the double-sided tape won't be noticeable.
- Easy to clean. Because it's anchored to the floor, cleaning is much simpler with a brush or a vacuum cleaner.
both indoor and outdoor use. It makes no difference whether you want to install it outdoors or indoors. The mounting methods are designed to withstand any environment.
Types of adhesive
As we mentioned earlier, there are different types of adhesives depending on the surface you are going to install them on: two-component glue or double-sided tape.
The key is to choose products specifically designed for artificial grass that you know will not damage the fibers or the backing, and that are durable so that, over the years, the seams or corners do not lift up.
Where to apply the tape?
If you choose double-sided tape, you can place it wherever is easiest for you, either directly on the ground or on the back of the artificial grass.
How much tape should I use?
A strip of double-sided bonding tape around the perimeter of the surface will be sufficient to ensure a perfect installation and secure the anchor in place.
Is it possible to install artificial grass without gluing it?
There are other ways to anchor artificial grass to the ground without gluing it.
For example, silica sand. This type of sand is widely used in artificial turf installations. Its main advantages are:
- It promotes filament recovery.
- It keeps the surface moist for longer and therefore heats up less. Very useful, especially in the hottest months.
- Its weight keeps the grass attached to the ground without the need for glue.
Another option is to place garden furniture. The major drawback is that moving the furniture will also move the artificial grass.
What are the best practices?
Artificial grass is so versatile that it can be installed on any surface . The fixing method chosen will depend on the type of ground.
However, regardless of the surface, we recommend always gluing it to the ground for a long-lasting installation and to prevent the artificial grass from shifting. Additionally, you can use silica sand to further strengthen the installation . You won't regret it!
